Year/Make/ModelTire-related Crash?
DescriptionHas anyone crashed or know of anyone who has crashed as a result of a blown or otherwise defective tire? Specifically, tires manufactured by Continental? I purchased new aftermarket whitewalls made by Continental (for my Vespa PX200) and less than 10 months and not even 1500 miles later, had a rear tire blow out while riding 50 mph. It was not until I was fixing my bike that I saw tread separation on my front tire that it occurred to me the tires may have been defective. I then looked online and saw photos of tires blown caused by defective tread separation. After more research into the matter, l was chagrined to learn there have a lot of recalls due to this defect, including motorcycle tires. I wanted to first send out a heads up on the matter - check your tread - check the manufacturer for a recall - but also was wondering if this was just a one time fluke or if there is hazard out there that the scooter riding public needs to be aware of? I sincerely hope no one else may have been similarly impacted. However, if you or someone you know has had a tire-related accident, it might be useful to compare information and hopefully present it to the manufactuers attention before anyone else is injured. Thanks!
