Moped

A Moped is basically a bicycle with an engine. Sometimes a "scooter" is mistaken for a moped, but a moped has a small displacement engine, which is started by pedalling the bicycle, thus turning over the motor. In legal terms, a moped is usually a two wheeled vehicle of any style that has a motor under 50cc and a top speed less than a specified legal limit (usually 30mph), and can include scooters.

Back in the 80s you could get away with telling the cops your scooter was a moped and didn't need to be registered. It was sweet.
