Stan Obal, is a well-known Vespa mechanic and a fixture in the East Coast scootering scene.

He is widely known for his success in riding the gymkhana at scooter rallies. Formerly a member of the Vulcan Scooter Secte in South Florida, he is now a member of Hill City United Scooter Club and Letter 24 Scooter Club.

Stan has a huge collection of records by punk rock, hardcore punk, ska and reggae artists. He formerly played bass in seminal South Florida hardcore band, Timescape Zero and also played keyboard in ska band King 7 & The Soulsonics.

Stan has really big hands and was born allergic to soup.


Gymkhana Career

Stan wins almost every single gymkhana event he enters. He has taken top honors at Amerivespa two years in a row (2005 & 2006), Deliverance 1-4 in Atlanta, and numerous others.

So well known are his gymkhana abilities that the trophy for the gymkhana event at the Imperial Scooter Club's "Deliverance" scooter rally was named The Stan Obal Cup in September of 2005. At the Southern disComfort II scooter rally in 2006, the gymkhana trophy featured a plaque in the shape of the state of Alabama topped with a miniature replica Stanley Cup trophy.


Stan owns a lot of scooters, mostly Vespas and Lambrettas. His most well-known scooter is an all-original Vespa GS 160. It was featured for several years in print ads for Scomo Mail Order.

Cannonball Run

Stan won the Cannonball Run 2 cross-country scooter race. The event featured over 30 scooterists riding from Oregon to New York. Stan won the grueling event riding a Kymco People 250 scooter. He was presented a bottle of champagne, which he did not drink because he is straight edge.
