1964 Vespa GL
Year/Make/Model1964 Vespa GL
DescriptionI have decided to sell my 1964 Vespa GL to help clean out the garage and make room for other, more needy projects. This is a great example of a well cared for, completely rust-free, original GL which started its life in Chicago where it was literally a daily driver for a woman who used it to go to work as a teacher. Some things have changed over the years but it is a good, honest, original GL with a lot of character. The paint is original and I have a jar of original Max Meyer Ivorio (Ivory) paint to go with her. I haven't touched her up because, for the most part, I hate to mess with originality. The scooter has the original motor which runs strong, the original dust plates under the headset, the original dealer keychain, column lock, hand grips, speedo (showing almost 18k miles), outer and inner cables, the original legshield trim, cowl trim and Vespa GL legshield badge (With a broken "V"). When I got her, the tank was full of rust from sitting. The tank has been cleaned, nickel plated and powder coated so it is maintenance-free. The rims on the scoot were chrome aftermarket rims but I got the original rims which were left to the elements and began to rust. I cleaned up the original rims and had them powder coated with the hubs which had no color left on them. The original rims were worn thin near the tube stem holes so I took the best one and put it on the rear. The front rim is an original paint rim I found in Italy. The 2 unused rims will also go with the scoot. The flywheel cover was also powder coated. I have a nice patina rear rack that came with the scoot that I will include for an additional $100 if desired. The tires are new Pirelli SC 30s. The things that have changed over the years are: a new seat frame and cover, new glovebox lock and key, possibly a new tail light gasket, the centerstand boots, possibly a new headset switch and headlight rim. I also have an NOS Siem headlight trim that I will include for an additional $100 if desired. The centerstand works well but has been a bit consumed and the front tire remains on the ground when on the centerstand. The speedo makes a bit of noise but works well. The scoot starts on the first or second kick, runs strong and rides well. I am asking $3,250. I am fairly firm but I will listen to serious offers. I will assist with shipping any way I can but prefer not to crate. Call or email for more info or pictures. Tom
