Description | 64 Vespa GL in pretty much unrestored condition.
Speedo says 5,054 miles... I believe that is fairly accurate.
I cleaned the tank, replaced the fuel petcock and lines, and rebuilt the carb a few years ago. Starts fairly easily when engine is cold, but is hard to start when warmed up (go figure). Probably could use a new/pro-rebuilt carb.
Sheet metal is in very good shape. A fair amount of that paint is rattle-can touch-up... BUT the GOOD news is that I think it kept it pretty much rust free - solid body throughout. Legshield has one small bend (pictured) but it otherwise pretty nice. Floorboards are dinged up but solid.
I'll throw in a bitchin', like new grey Corazzo nylon mesh jacket with armor panels (size Large) and my helmet if you want it.
Small issues:
- Carb bowl overflows unless ran dry before putting away... this is probably a pitted needle valve seat. I tried polishing it during the carb rebuild, but still is an issue.
- Slips a bit in high gear going up steep hills(shifting cross/cruciform?), but only under heavy load (uh... yeah, I'm a bit of a heavy load).
I think this is a very good resto candidate!... or slap a P200 engine in it and it'd be a great rat-rod!
