1974 Vespa Rally 200
Year/Make/Model1974 Vespa Rally 200
DescriptionOriginal '74 Rally 200 in almost* working condition, $3,500. I've owned it and ridden it occasionally since 2010 and performed a 2014 tear-down and rebuild of everything except the front hub. The good: - Original paint on the body - rubbed, claybarred, waxed, etc. during 2014 rebuild. See pics. Headset and clutch tube cover were originally orange and blue, respectively, but whenever they were repainted to maroon was a long time ago and probably at a Vespa shop because they are exact matches to body and with same age patina. Cowls were repainted more recently (before me) and are a close match. - No major dents and only one minor one: lower right legshield with amateurish but small repaint job there. - Ulma legshield trim and newish rubber everywhere. - Newish floor rubber with original metal trim, properly hammer-riveted at the ends. - Oil injected and it works correctly. - Compression is decent, about 100 psi. - Original keyed, 6V battery electrical system. (You can decide for yourself if that's "good".) - Femsatronic replaced with Ducati CDI. Original Femsa included in sale. - Lights work. Correct rear turn indicator posts installed and working with new LED blinker and bulbs. Original indicator switch on clutch handle. (I didn't install the front posts (included in sale) because I realized I'd have to disassemble the handlebars again to do that and I was tired of that.) Wiring in place for front indicators. - Clean title. The not so good: * - Won't stay running. Fires for a couple seconds then dies. Can't figure it out and I'm tired of trying. I decided a couple years ago that it's physically just too small for me (6'3", 210) so I don't have the interest in putting in too much time on it anymore. When it was running right, it would hold 60-65 mph for miles on end. Most recent time running right was fall 2015 for a 90 mile run. - Never could find the rectangle reflectors for the front fender. Included with the sale are ... - Cuppini vintage crash bars that don't fit a Rally. They are for an older, skinnier Vespa. The front one has the rare over-the-fender bar. - Nolan flip-face helmet (med.) almost color matched to the Rally. - Various spare parts and two manuals. I'm keeping the 4th hand tool. :) The pics are from 2014. No major changes since. Minor changes: Femsa -> Ducati, original seat strap reattached. Would consider selling the bike only - w/o helmet and crash bars - for $3300. If you don't like this price for non-running bike, keep it to yourself and move on to the next Rally ad.
