Comments: We were riding through Max's, one of the traditional Eugene stops.
After I went to go to back of the building to ride through again, cops pulled me over. They hadn't seen any other scooters and didn't know what the heck was going on. And (of course) none of the scooterists saw me get pulled over. The conversation went something like
this:
Officer:
Why were you riding on the sidewalk?
Me:
Well, umm, I was coming out of the bar.
Officer:
So why were you on the sidewalk? Were you parked on the sidewalk? You can't park on the sidewalk either.
Me:
No, you see, well, (trying hard not to giggle hysterically) I was RIDING through the bar.
Officer:
(in shock) You were riding through the bar? On your bike?
Me:
Umm, yeah, you see we're having a rally and well it's pretty hard to come out of the bar and not actually ride on the sidewalk for just a teensy
little bit.
They didn't give me a ticket. They made me do a sobriety test and checked my license.
This makes three times I've been pulled over
during a rally. It's amazing how charming I can be when I want to. After the cops left I decided I needed a drink so I went into Max's again sans scooter.
The bartender (who'd seen the cop lights and figured out what was going on) poured me a couple of free beers for my troubles. And he asked if I wanted to ride through again. And here's the photo.
